James Webb Space Telescope : Everything you want to know

Image
What did the galaxy look like 4.6 billion years ago? Well, we don’t have to guess. Thanks to the James Webb Space Telescope built by NASA we know exactly how it looked and it is unbelievable!  When I said Webb, don’t think of a spider! While you and I were eating pizza and watching tv, thousands of smart scientists worked on creating the most powerful telescope in the world to help us understand space better.  Now I know what you must be thinking, What is James Webb? Who is he? The James Webb Space Telescope is the successor of the Hubble space telescope. It has also been called “The next generation of space telescopes”. It has a huge camera. Does anyone have a phone camera that's 6.5 meters across? No right? Well that's the length of the main camera on the James Webb Space Telescope, the largest mirror in space. It also orbits the sun every 182.5 earth days or 6 earth months. It was made by NASA. It is named after James Webb who was a very good NASA administrator. I talked a

My 2022 birthday

Image
It was May 3rd and my birthday.  I woke up and went to the hall and found that my birthday was themed after my favorite video game: Minecraft.  Minecraft is basically a game where you mine and explore and defend bases from enemies at night as well as craft better gear to help you on your journey. The main goal in the game is to defeat the ender dragon. So there were minecraft balloons on the floor. I played with them. I got minecraft clothes. I wore them. My sister also got one. The shirts basically have lots of minecraft characters and my shirt had “Miner” while my sisters had the full “Minecraft” on her shirt. Then we went to Phoenix mall. There we ate at a place called “Rajdhani”. We had Chapathi, Appalam, Poori, Aaloo Curry and Paneer Subji. After that my sister and I went on a train based on Disney characters. It went around the entire 3rd floor. It was very fun.  After that we went to a playground called Funky Monkey. My sister and I really enjoyed it. We liked the trampolines th

Tips to help kids during injections

Image
Hello everyone so recently I went to the doctor, and I saw a lot of people there who were very scared of injection, even adults. I decided to give some tips on how children can be made relaxed when they have to take injection.  1. Favourite Toy Parents should  bring a favorite toy of the kids maybe something like a soft teddy bear or car.   2. Comfortable   Tell them before only that injection is coming. It will pain a little but it will go very fast. Make them  comfortable not scared and it will make them feel like it’s just like that home. This is very simple to do (it is not). 3.   Talk  I love talking with my parents a lot. In fact I dictated this blog on mom’s phone on MS Word Hands free dictation when I was waiting for my turn at clinic. So you can also sit with your kid and talk their favourite topics so they can get distracted about what’s going on and and they will have lot of fun.   I hope all these points help you. Injection pains but we must all get injections. I meant, tha

Puducherry Pulls! My fun summer trip

Image
I went to Puducherry on Thursday, and yes it really pulls!  Puducherry is located on the south east of Chennai. Puducherry is 142 km from Chennai, It takes about 3 hrs to get there by car. Puducherry is a place with lots of history, it was taken by the French in the 19th century and even today, there are lots of French buildings and roads. So, my mother, grandparents, my sister and my aunt and I went. We finished packing a day before leaving. We decided to stay there for 3 days. My sister made us all laugh by calling it ‘Monticherry’.  We left on 21 Apr at 6 in the morning by car! After sometime, we played a couple of games and my sister vomited(pst:dont tell that to anyone or her). Eventually we stopped at an A2B in Mahabalipuram(1h from Chennai in car) but this wasn’t just any A2B.  This was the A2B where my mother had taken a photo of my sister and I when we were both very small. We both are seated on a plane. She has that photo as her phone’s background. We were excited to take ano

Kali wants to dance - Book review

Image
By Aparna Karthikeyan & Somesh Kumar      First of all, Happy International Dance Day!  I know, yes many people would dance and, yes I did try but let's just say it was not so good, so since I couldn’t dance, I thought to write a book review on dance and hey! I get to celebrate without dancing! My first reaction to the cover page was bharatnatyam because there was a boy doing bharatnatyam. I got the book from storyweaver.org.in. Storyweaver is a website where you can read 1000+ stories in 100+ languages. These stories are nice and small. Usually storyweaver stories don't go longer than 50 pages.  In this book, Kali sees people do bharatanatyam and tries it. He does very well. Slowly, the small fishing village of Kovalam starts to notice. His mother asks him to join a dance school. However, his maama and friends say bad stuff and bully him for wanting to become a dancer. Will he become a world famous dancer or will he herd the sheep and do fishing in his village? Read the b

School trek to Karadi Kallu Betta

Image
It was a very hot day on April 3. We had to trek up a hill called Karadi Kallu Betta. Karadi Kallu Betta is in Ramanagara which is 70km away from Bangalore City. Here is some information about Karadi Kallu Betta, Karadi Kallu Betta is one of the least explored hills in Ramanagara. It has 3-4 caves at the top and also a beautiful lake. Kayaking, Zipline, and other adventure activities at the resort are the highlights of this trek. The trek was organized by Treknomads.   I woke up at 4 am and went to my school. It was so early in the morning. We then went on a nice white bus. It took us one and a half hours to reach Karadi Kallu Betta. It was a superb place and it looked beautiful. The lead instructor told us that it was called Base Camp. I was wondering “If the Base Camp is cool looking, how good will the trek be.”   So then we went on a trek on the hill(Karadi Kallu Betta) , where we climbed four hills. One tip for when you go there - make sure not to get hit by the cacti because I got

Lessons to learn from Neeraj Chopra

Image
When I wrote my first blog for my school, I said this line, “I hope the Olympics goes on smoothly and India can win many gold medals! Go India!” Well we did ! Did you think India would win an Olympic gold medal? Did you think it would be in athletics?  I certainly did not. And the person we have to thank for making this happen is Neeraj Chopra. So who is Neeraj Chopra? Neeraj Chopra is a javelin thrower in the men's category who is very good.Want to hear his inspiring story? Well, here it is! Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December, 1997. He is the son of a farmer in Panipat village, Haryana. When he was 12 years, he weighed a lot - over 90 kg! His father was very concerned about his weight so he was taken to a sports academy. There he was bullied for his weight. One day, he picked a javelin and threw it and it went over 40 meters and the coach was impressed and started teaching him.Soon, he became an expert. Training and traveling to different tournaments was difficult but somehow

Should homework be banned?

Image
Homework is a vital part of a student’s life so I choose not to ban homework as it helps us revise our class topics. I know some people don’t like to do homework but I think doing homework helps us learn and become successful in life. The best way of doing homework is to take breaks between assignments like you do Science homework and then take a 2 hour break and do English it is as simple as that. So why is homework important? According to Education Week, an online survey of over 1,000 teachers, 500 parents, and 2,100 students conducted by MetLife,77 percent of students and more than 80 percent of teachers and parents say homework is important or very important. The study also reported that 75 percent of students stated they did at least 30 minutes, while 45 percent said they spend more than an hour on homework each regular school day. Homework does not need to be boring. You can make yourself a points chart and everyday when you complete your homework you earn stickers and if you com

Thanks to the Covid 19 pandemic, my birthday had changed completely.I couldn’t go out and it was very hard. When I woke up, I forgot it was my birthday. Then I ran to the hall and the theme was CSK, my favorite IPL Team.  I had breakfast and then thanked everybody on the Whatsapp group before playing PlayStation and phone for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon, I took a bath, ate lunch and my aunt showed me a special birthday gift. Then I watched a movie. In the evening, I went out for a walk and we had a birthday party. I had a cake with the photo of my favourite cricketers from CSK.  There was a Kahoot Quiz about me which my aunt won. We ordered pizza and played with balloons.  Finally, in the night, we opened my gifts. I got a basketball, a dart game, a rocket making kit and a helicopter.  After that, I went to sleep.  I would like to thank my family for arranging this.Thank you!

Happy birthday Rabindranath Tagore

Image
Last year my school said to dress up as someone great. I did not know who to dress up as. Then I dressed up as Rabindranath Tagore. That time I did not know who he was but I learnt a lot about him. Since today is his birthday let me tell you what I learnt. Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7th May 1865. He Has composed the National Anthem of India and Bangladesh. He    was the first non-european to win a Nobel prize in literature and the 2nd non-european to win any Nobel prize. Despite his greatness, he had a sad childhood. His mother died early into his life and he was mostly raised by servants and was 1 of 13 surviving children. He has written many poems and many stories although I have not read all of them. I am sure they are interesting. One book I really love by him is Kabuliwala. It is a book about a little girl who is very friendly with a Kabuliwala. She thinks inside his sack are kidnapped children but then understands that he is nice.  I think every child should read his books
